Newsjack - Series 24
BBC Newsjack returned on Thursday 25th February at 10.30pm on BBC Radio 4 Extra for a four-episode run. It was also being repeated on BBC Radio 4 at 11pm on Fridays for this series, so it would have been extra bloomin' lovely to get something on! The oneliners and good week/bad weeks will be on this page with links to any sketches I sent. Little did we know at the time, but this would be the last series of Newsjack broadcast 😥

BREAKING NEWS
A female German beach volleyball team has said it will boycott a tournament in Qatar over the country’s ban on players wearing bikinis on court. In an act of solidarity, many men have said they will now also boycott watching the event altogether.

A Californian plastic surgeon is being investigated for appearing at a virtual trial mid-operation. Suspicions were aroused as when addressing the court, a buzzer went off and the patient’s nose flashed red.
A firm selling coastal air has caused a row by marketing air from Devon as being from the ‘Cornish Heritage Coast’. A spokesperson has apologised saying this was due to rushing orders out to students in time for fresh-airs week.

It’s been a good week for the Guardian Group’s newspapers as it gained 33 National Press Awards Nominations.

Episode 3 - Broadcast 11/03/21
BREAKING NEWS
A helicopter pilot made an 80-mile round trip to pick up a beef sandwich from a farmshop. The shop has been selling takeaways to visiting cyclists, so it wasn’t that unusual to see a chopper.

Edinburgh City Council has written off £1.3m of parking fines. They hope to recoup some of the money by withdrawing the £10 prize offered for coming second in a beauty contest.

Nigel Farage announced he joined celebrity video site Cameo after emerging from an old telephone box. Found mostly outside village pubs, bright red and now largely obsolete, Mr Farage recently quit Reform UK.

Episode 4 - Broadcast 18/03/21
BREAKING NEWS
Hairdressers in Wales were allowed to reopen this week. The news was widely welcomed, with one Welsh operatic star stating he was delighted he could now 🎶Go Dump Hair!🎶.
Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Pele’s record for the number of goals scored in official matches. Commenting on losing the accolade Pele said, it was a bitter pill to swallow and it will be hard for a while.
Good Week/Bad Week
It’s been a good week for Maltesers as they replaced white chocolate as one of the items used to calculate the cost of living in the UK.

It’s been a bad week for the Milky Bar Kid, who is now out of a job.
It’s been a good week for bakery chain Greggs as it is set to open 100 new shops in 2021.
